Recognising that young people are a critical partner in P/CVE, Strong Cities has made young people a priority in its mission to enhance locally-led efforts to counter extremism, hate and polarisation globally. Through its youth engagement programme, Young Cities, Strong Cities enhances the role of young people in three pivotal ways: 1) by building their capacity as peacebuilders and leaders; 2) by promoting meaningful youth engagement with and youth-focused policies from municipal officials; and 3) by facilitating opportunities for cooperation between young people and their local government.

From 2018 to 2021, Strong Cities worked with 76 youth and 16 local officials in Tripoli, Saida and Majdal Anja, Lebanon to launch 14 collaborative youth projects and support a massive relief effort in Beirut following the tragic explosion. In 2021-2022, Strong Cities worked with 21 youth in Zarqa, Jordan, supporting three youth-led community initiatives and 21 local officials in Zarqa, Irbid and Karak to develop a city-led initiative for youth engagement in each city. This booklet provides a detailed account of that work.
