About us Regional Hubs

Regional Hubs

The Strong Cities Network has launched Regional Hubs in East and Southern Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, South Asia, and the Western Balkans. Staffed by small teams of local experts, directly supported by the Management Unit’s Central Team, the Regional Hubs work closely with cities, local leaders and practitioners to catalyse the Strong Cities’ mission on a regional basis.

How the Hubs work

Regional Hubs facilitate engagement and provide support to cities across their respective regions. This includes: mayoral/city events and convenings; training activities; needs mapping; good practice identification and dissemination; briefings and webinars; and an active help desk to respond to city questions and challenges.

Members can also receive support through a Technical Support Fund (TSF) offering direct assistance with identified needs that align with the Network’s strategic priorities. Led by the Management Unit, the TSF can be used to facilitate tailored training or other capacity-building activities.

While the Hubs’ primary focus is on cities in their respective regions, they draw on additional capacity, good practices and models from across the global network, which can be tailored to local contexts. They also identify and feed back in innovations and approaches from their regions for the benefit of all Strong Cities members.

Five Pillars

While the size, structure and focus of each Hub will vary by region, scoped in consultation with relevant local leaders and local authorities, each Strong Cities Regional Hub works under five broad focus areas or pillars, with specific activities under each based on the needs and priorities of cities in the region
