Recognising that young people are a critical partner in P/CVE, Strong Cities has made young people a priority in its mission to enhance locally-led efforts to counter extremism, hate and polarisation globally. Through its youth engagement programme, Young Cities, Strong Cities enhances the role of young people in three pivotal ways: 1) by building their capacity as peacebuilders and leaders; 2) by promoting meaningful youth engagement with and youth-focused policies from municipal officials; and 3) by facilitating opportunities for cooperation between young people and their local government.

Strong Cities has worked with young people in Gositvar and Skopje from 2020 to 2022, providing direct support to empower 76 young people and guidance for 12 municipal officials to develop sustainable solutions to the most pressing challenges facing youth in these cities. Strong Cities has supported 24 youth-led projects that directly impacted 3,011 young people and reached 1,127,194 more, as well as two city led projects that improved municipal-level programming and a joint policy workshop to address youth policy priorities. This booklet provides a detailed account of that work.
