The Strong Cities Network is an independent network, driven by and in support of its 160+ member cities. That work and impact it has on cities and communities around the world would not be possible without the commitment, generosity, and belief of our donors.

During all of the Strong Cities Network side events in the margins of the opening of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, we were extremely gratified to hear our donors voice their continued, strong support not only for the Network and its members but also – in light of the increasingly complex threat environment that cities face – the purpose and urgency of the Strong Cities mission.

The Strong Cities event on City-led Action in Prevention Violent Extremism, Hate and Polarisation: Local-Level Approaches, Needs & Priorities was co-hosted by the European Union, represented by Mr. Ilkka Salmi, Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, Council of the European Union, and the U.S. Department of State, represented by Mr. Ian Moss, Deputy Coordinator for Countering Violent Extremism and Terrorist Detentions, Bureau of Counterterrorism. Mr. Salmi and Mr. Moss both joined Executive Director Eric Rosand on the dais to open the event, and spoke strongly of their pride, enthusiasm and commitment as champions and partners of the Strong Cities Network. Mr Moss called on other donors to join them in supporting the Network and the cities and local authorities who play such key roles in addressing extremism, hate and polarisation.

Mr. Raffi Gregorian, Deputy to the Under-Secretary-General & Director, United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, reiterated the key roles that cities and local leaders play in prevention and emphasised the UN’s support for this work.

The Strong Cities Network is incredibly proud of the support it receives from donors and the reach and impact it delivers through those investments.
