UN General Assembly Virtual Side-Event:
Celebrating Five Years of the Strong Cities Network

This virtual event takes place 30 September 2020, 09:30 – 11:00 EST / 13:30 – 15:00 UTC.

This September, the Strong Cities Network (SCN) will be celebrating five years of achievements since it launched at the U.N. General Assembly in 2015. To mark the occasion, we are organising a celebratory event showcasing the leadership of local government in addressing hate, polarisation and extremism. The virtual event, to be held on the margins of the U.N. General Assembly will be co-hosted with our partners and friends, the governments of Denmark, Kenya, Lebanon and the United States.

Follow this link if you would like to register to attend. Alternatively, you may watch the live-stream on our YouTube channel.

Mayors and practitioners from SCN member cities around the world will discuss emerging challenges and how their city is responding. Topics will include the evolution of ideologies inspired by white supremacy, ethno-nationalism, ISIS and al-Qa’ida, alongside local challenges such as rehabilitation and reintegration efforts. The SCN will also welcome high-level representatives from partner governments, who will highlight the importance of partnerships between national and local governments with support from the international community. We would be honoured if you would join us for the event, which will be followed by a question and answer session with the SCN team for existing and prospective members.
