Second Regional Training Workshop – SCN in Lebanon and Jordan

The Strong Cities Network (SCN) regional municipality capacity building project, supported by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), held its second regional training workshop in Jordan on the role of mentorship in preventing violent extremism on 25-28 October 2017.

The workshop was attended by approximately 100 members of the six local Lebanese and Jordanian municipality-led Prevention Networks. The aim of the workshop was to develop a local manual for PVE mentorship in each of the Prevention Networks.

The local manuals were inspired by a Danish mentorship manual developed by the Danish Center for Prevention of Radicalization (SIRI). The workshop introduced participants to general mentorship guidance through joint plenary discussions as well as separate training sessions, and a first draft of a training manual in Arabic developed by the regional SCN team was used as the starting point. The local mentorship manuals include an analysis of local push and pull factors to violent extremism, concern factors and indicators, and build on shared reflections on appropriate local PVE initiatives and potential risks associated with developing regional programming.
