This policy document is the US Department of State and USAID’s joint strategy to counter violent extremism.  It calls for a collective, sustainable approach to combat terrorism and violent extremism to diminish violent extremist groups’ ability to attract individuals or support in specific communities and to give governments, multilateral organisations and communities the capacity to counter radicalised individuals or extremism groups. This strategy addresses specific societal dynamics driving radicalization and violence, looking at how to counter ideology and messaging and make proactive efforts to prevent support for violent extremism.
