The SCN strengthens strategic planning and practices among municipal-level policy makers and builds the capacity of local practitioners to prevent the spread of violent extremism in all its forms. The SCN has an extensive programme of activities in order to facilitate a systematic exchange of good practice, expertise and lessons learned between member cities.
The Strong Cities Network Global Summit
The City of Antalya (Turkey), with support from the City of London (United Kingdom), will host the 2016 Global Summit in May in Antalya. The Global Summit brings together over 100 municipal-level policy makers and practitioners from across the globe. It provides an opportunity for SCN members to showcase local projects, participate in local innovation workshops and network with colleagues from around the world.
The SCN is establishing partnerships with a number of key stakeholders including, the OSCE, UN-Habitate, the European Forum for Urban Security (Efus), the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Global Center for Cooperative security to expand the network and programming in priority regions. These include: West Africa, Eastern Africa, the Balkans, Central Asia and Southeast Asia.
Denmark-MENA Exchange Programme
Together with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the SCN has commenced a 2-year in-depth exchange programme between Copenhagen and Aarhus (Denmark) and Amman (Jordan), Beirut (Lebanon) and Tunis (Tunisia). The project aims to support these cities in the creation of multi-agency prevention and de-radicalisation programmes.
The SCN International Visitor Leadership Program
